SAT exam is digital now and comprises 2 broad sections: reading and writing and mathematics. Both the sections are scored separately, on the individual range of 200-800. Most of the questions in the digital SAT are MCQ-based; only a few questions in the mathematics section require your input instead of selecting one amongst the 4 options. So, the biggest advantage the students have is that it has no negative marking. The latest SAT exam is little different from the previous one in the following ways:
- The overall timing of SAT exam has been reduced
- Now the calculators are allowed to solve mathematics questions
- Only one consolidated reading and writing section
The digital SAT exam pattern comprises of 2 main sections:
- READING + WRITING
- Mathematics section
Majority of the questions asked in the examination are MCQ based, and only 11 are student-based responses. Total duration of exam is 2 hour and 14 minutes, with a 10 minutes break in between. Both the sections have been further divided into 2 modules; and the duration of each remains the same.
CHANGES IN THE NEW SAT WITH RESPECT TO THE OLD SAT:
As per the new digital SAT, the duration of examination has been reduced, by almost 1 hour. The number of questions has also been reduced. Usage of basic or graphic calculator is allowed for questions asked on bluebook. The subject tests have been scrapped off and now the essays are not the part of SAT exam for international students.
The best is that the new digital SAT allows the students to attempt the exam on their own device, which is beneficial for students, also in boosting students’ morale. The questions have also become shorter, and this way the students’ pace is increased to 30% faster than other exams, tested on similar patterns.
