Statement of Purpose (SOP)

A statement of purpose is an academic document usually required during the admissions for PhD and Masters in almost all the countries in the world.

A statement of purpose is an element of a graduate school application that tells admissions committees about yourself, your academic and professional interests, and how you'll contribute to the graduate studies to which you're applying. Structure of a Statement of Purpose:
⦿ Brainstorming for Ideas: Before attempting the first draft, A student should brainstorm for ideas and ask the following questions.
--1. He recommends that you ask yourself these crucial questions when developing your statement of purpose:
--2. What motivates me to pursue this degree?
--3. What am I hoping to get out of this degree?
--4. What aspects of the courses or program most interest me?
--5. Where do I hope to go with this degree, both professionally and personally?
--6. How will the program benefit from my professional and personal experiences?

Write answers to these questions and, the start drafting the SOP para-wise.
--1. Introduction: A brief introduction of yourself and your background as it relates to your motivation behind applying to graduate school
--2. Body: Your relevant details related to academics and accomplishments related to the field. You can also add about your professional goals as they relate to the program and why you are interested in a specific program/department/school.
--3. Conclusion: A concise overview of the information offered in the body that highlights your qualifications and fit with the institution.
⦿ Write well and correctly: Be grammatically correct. Type and proofread your essay very carefully. Many admissions officers say that good written skills and command of correct use of language are important to them as they read these statements. Express yourself clearly and concisely. Adhere to stated word limits.
⦿ Length and Format: Generally, the personal letter world limit varies through universities. You can expect writing up to 500-700 words or 1 to 1.5 page. Fonts should be Ariel or Times new roman with font size 10-12.
